Rick Hunter (Fred Dryer) is a tough-minded, L.A.P.D. cop who plays by his own rules and hates the pimps, thieves, rapists, and murderers who prowl the streets of Los Angeles. "It works for me," is one of Hunter's favorite phrases but unfortunately, his way of doing things does not always sit well with his precinct captain, who puts a lot of effort into getting rid of him. He rewards Hunter's habit of demolishing police vehicles by replacing the cars with today's special from Rent-a-Wreck. Along with partner Dee Dee 'The Brass Cupcake' Mccall (Stepfanie Kramer), Hunter brought a tough new attitude to television in the 80s. Critics at the time may have attacked its wild violence, but millions of fans embraced its extreme action, sly humor and sexual chemistry to make HUNTER one of the most popular cop show hits in TV history.
