How about keeping TVU's index a bit cleaner then it is right now?

Take for instance Stargate Atlantis S4 (english dubbed):

Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 (720p-HDTV) Still Running 2007 2007-10-03 02:31
Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 (DSR) Still Running 2007 2007-09-29 03:20
Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 (HR-HDTV) Still Running 2007 2007-10-03 02:31
Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 Still Running 2007 2007-09-11 08:57
Stargate Atlantis - Season 4 (720p-HDTV) Still Incomplete 2007-10-30 18:27

Firstly, the normal "Stargate Atlantis - Season 4" is the DVD-rip version, is the one we all want eventually, because it has no annoying watermarks and no annoying pauses in between (which are the cut-out commercials from tv). So this one should stay no matter what. But of course we want fresh episodes as soon as possible, so that leaves an additional four.

Now we see 2 entries with exactly the same description, both 720p-HDTV, both has episodes of 350MB each, but submitted by 2 different submitters. Why in godsname?
I also often see (not in this case) a DSR and a HDTV rip at the same time... They may be from 2 different sources, but there's no difference in quality and no difference in filesize...

I see this alot and in my opinion it messes up TVU's index and divides download sources which is unwanted of course (because the less sources, the slower the download...)

So, to all you submitters out there: I understand you want your own rips in circulation because you took the trouble to rip them (Which is VERY much appreciated by the TVU community btw), but if a similar quality is already out there, plz refrain from posting ANOTHER one on there... It will not make things better...

I'm sorry if I'm outta line here, I'm just giving my opinion on this one...

[edit]I just noticed the same with S3 of stargate atlantis: There are 2 entries both named (DVDRIP), both filesizes of 350MB and almost the same resolution. Even if there IS a difference I think the best one should remain and the other one should be removed as soon as possible. [/edit]

Who cares? They're just TV-rips. If I want something to keep & collect I download DVDrips, like most people I suspect... I can understand the hi-res rips, if you watch them on TV that is.

Anyways, I just find the entire ed2k index to be a bit chaotic, it's hard to find the right stuff this way.
Also this many "flavours" means less download-sources each as I already stated...

meh I keep 720p tv rips till and if the HDDVD or BluRay release. We at TVU dump (or are supposed to) PDTV or Less quality TV rips when DVDRips come into play....but we are indeed going to keep HDTV+ seasons unless a HDDVDRip or BDRip of the same class releases. Also occasionally there will be an aspect difference between DVDRips that are sourced and the 16:9 HDTV rips.

We are not here to decide what people want....we are here to index what is on the network. And to an extent we do dump lesser quality in order to get sources combined....but we also believe in choice. And if we were to go full force on quality everything would be dumped for 1080p but only 20% could play it. :P

Also to say that DSR and HDTV is the same, is to say you have a poor connection to your video display or you don't have much of an eye for detail. I have been in HD land for awhile and I may be skewed but I can seen a massive difference between HD and non HD sources.....at least when captured/ripped correctly. :P

I prefer having a variety of choices, rather than having others make the choices on my behalf. I like the fact that TVU is showing me what's available instead of picking out just parts of it. But this obviously is a matter of judgement, especially among the verifyers/mods. No need to add/keep an old 2002 divx3 rip of a show if there's a new and high quality rip available.

I do a defrag and run pagedefrag on startup. I am on about a 8-9 month cycle of re-installing win2k. It runs pretty good most of the time. Another thing that can help is to keep your profile clean, and just replace the thing every once and a while.
